URSB, Ministry of Trade Align on Fast-tracking National IP Policy Implementation
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) held a key consultative meeting with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives (MoTIC) on July 8, 2025, aimed at accelerating the implementation of the National Intellectual Property (IP) Policy, 2019.
Held at the Uganda Business Facilitation Centre (UBFC), Kololo, the meeting was attended by technical teams from both institutions and was led by Mr. Patrick Mugisha, Commissioner for Business Development and Quality Assurance at MoTIC.
The dialogue focused on defining priority actions and establishing collaboration mechanisms to operationalize MoTIC’s role in supporting Uganda’s IP ecosystem. As the custodian of trade and industrial development, MoTIC plays a vital role in raising IP awareness and strengthening its integration into national development agendas.
Two key action points emerged from the meeting: MoTIC will develop a concept for stakeholder capacity-building on IP, scheduled for implementation in Quarter 2 of FY 2025/26. Additionally, the Ministry will formally request the establishment of a Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) to enhance access to IP resources and support innovation.
The engagement signals strengthened institutional collaboration in promoting the strategic use of IP to boost trade, innovation, and economic growth.
