SOUL picnic shines spotlight on mental health

Celebrating community and wellness, the Soul Foundation Uganda held its first-ever Soul Picnic on
Saturday at Canopy Gardens, Mutungo, drawing crowds for a powerful day of mental health awareness
and healing.

Colourful picnic setup, soulful music, and open conversations marked the inaugural Soul Picnic, a mental
health awareness event organised by the Soul Foundation Uganda alongside other stakeholders.

Attended by URSB Board Secretary Caroline Egesa and staff from the bureau, along with various other participants, the picnic fostered safe and welcoming environment for open dialogue on mental health, a topic frequently stigmatised in Ugandan society.

The afternoon featured a panel of mental health advocates who courageously shared personal experiences, encouraging attendees to speak freely about their mental health journeys.

The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) was among the key participants spotlighted at the event, supporting the theme of holistic well-being and community empowerment.

Mindfulness activities, live music, games, and dance sessions helped participants unwind and reconnect with each other.

Ms. Geraldine Opoka, one of the event coordinators, praised the strong turnout and openness of participants. “This is just the beginning,” she said. “We want mental health to be talked about freely and
prioritised across all communities.”
