URSB holds 3rd quarterly engagement with CMO leadership
The Department of Copyright and Neighbouring Rights at Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) held its third quarterly meeting with Collective Management Organisation (CMO) CEOs on Monday, 28th April 2025. Leaders from URRO, UFMI, and UPRS gathered to address compliance issues and streamline operations across Uganda’s creative sector.
Discussions centred on key operational concerns including licensing fee structures, monthly reporting protocols, and board approval processes for work plans and budget estimates. CMO executives committed to submitting all outstanding monthly reports for the first quarter of 2025 by month-end.
The meeting highlighted the importance of regular quarterly updates to URSB and featured commitments from CMO leadership to expand awareness campaigns to underserved regions, specifically Kasese and Kamuli. These outreach initiatives aim to educate creators about their rights under copyright law and how to protect their creative works.
“This ongoing collaboration demonstrates our commitment to building a more transparent and accountable creative ecosystem,” noted Ms. Miriam Nabatanzi, Commissioner of the Copyright
and Neighbouring Rights Department. “By working directly with CMO leadership, we’re establishing
clearer communication channels and strengthening compliance across the sector.“
The quarterly engagement series continues to serve as a vital platform for aligning regulatory expectations with operational realities in Uganda’s creative industries.
