Uganda’s young trailblazers shine at EPO Awards: URSB celebrates innovation that tallies with the UGYOUTH4IP idea

Two brilliant Ugandan minds are turning fruit-saving science into a global sustainability solutions, and the world is taking note of their innovations.

Their groundbreaking invention, biodegradable sachets infused with plant-based compounds, preserves fruits longer by slowing ripening and protecting against spoilage, fungi, and bacteria.

Inspired by their farming backgrounds, Namboozo and Muyita set out to solve one of agriculture’s greatest pain points: post-harvest losses. Their invention, developed under their startup Karpolax, extends fruit freshness up to three times longer than normal.

URSB commends this achievement, which exemplifies the power of youth-led innovation in addressing global challenges. Through IP awareness and protection, URSB ensures young inventors like Sandra and Samuel can commercialise and scale their solutions sustainably.

Their success supports SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), proving that innovation from the Global South can drive global change.

In April, the Registrar General, Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho unveiled a personally crafted initiative dubbed UGYouth4IP, a platform created to enhance awareness of IP among Uganda’s growing youthful population.
