Deputy Registrar General urges stronger IP protection for Arica’s creators and entrepreneurs

In a landmark seminar focused on intellectual property (IP) rights, Deputy Registrar General Mr. Alex Anganya urged IP firms and agents to take a leading role in securing Africa’s creative and innovative future.

The seminar, jointly organised by the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO) and the Uganda Registration Services Bureau, was held at the Uganda Business Facilitation Centre Auditorium, Kololo, on 30th April 2025.

Mr. Anganya emphasised the critical role of agents in helping individuals and businesses protect their intellectual property through ARIPO’s streamlined registration systems. “You are vital in guiding individuals, businesses, and organisations,” he stated, highlighting how agents support entrepreneurs in securing trademarks, assist researchers in patenting innovations, and help artists protect their creative works.

He underscored the importance of clarity and accessibility in the IP system, noting that without proper guidance, many innovators risk losing ownership of their ideas. “Various issues affect clients, and your agencies are instrumental in helping them,” he said, while also expressing gratitude to the Registrar General for organising the event.

Mr. Anganya concluded with a call to action: “Together, let’s leverage IP as a powerful tool for development,” reaffirming ARIPO’s commitment to fostering innovation through strong legal protections.
