Digital transformation takes centre stage at URSB-NIRA handover of civil registration
Ms. Annie Katushabe, a board member and chair of the ICT and Innovation Committee, delivered a powerful speech at the handover ceremony of civil registration functions to the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), proudly highlighting the transformative journey from manual processes to cutting-edge digital systems.
Representing the Board Chairman, Rt. Hon. Ambassador Francis Butagira at the handover ceremony, Ms. Katushabe stressed URSB’s remarkable achievements, particularly the digitisation of marriage records, marking a significant milestone in enhancing service delivery and efficiency in public administration.
“URSB is proud of the achievements we have had over the years,” Katushabe stated, emphasising the successful digitisation of marriage records through the National Marriage Registration System.
She highlighted the transformation of marriage certificates from typewritten documents to secure, computer-generated formats, showcasing the advancement in service delivery.
Ms. Katushabe noted that service quality improved dramatically in 2022 following URSB’s relocation to the Uganda Business Facilitation Centre. “You can now all agree with me that the pictures we see out there of couples getting married here are usually very good,” she joked, illustrating the enhanced experience for users.
Concluding her remarks, Ms. Katushabe expressed confidence that the solid foundation laid by URSB would empower NIRA to elevate civil registration functions to even greater heights, reinforcing the commitment to excellence in public service.
