URSB Board Chairman highlights Uganda’s business reforms during Malawi delegation visit
In a significant exchange of ideas and experiences, H.E. Rt. Hon. Amb. Francis Butagira, Board Chair of the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), emphasised Uganda’s transformative journey in business reform.
During a visit by a high-level delegation from Malawi led by Hon. Titus Mvalo, the Minister of Justice, who
visited the Uganda Business Facilitation Centre, Kololo to explore Uganda’s advancements in registration and business reform systems.
In his address, Amb. Butagira extended a warm welcome to the guests, reflecting on the historic and brotherly ties between Uganda and Malawi. “It is a pleasure to host you as you explore how Uganda is reforming its business landscape,” he stated.
He provided insights into URSB’s digital reforms that have significantly enhanced service delivery, positioning Uganda as a competitive investment destination.
“Our registration procedures have been simplified; now, nearly all our services are available online. Business names can be registered in just one hour, and company registrations take no more than three
hours,” Amb. Butagira elaborated, showcasing the efficiency achieved through modernisation.
He acknowledged the crucial support from the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, which has played a vital role in URSB’s success, and lauded the leadership of the Registrar General and the dedication her staff to ongoing reforms through continuous training.
Furthermore, Amb. Butagira discussed Uganda’s advancements in intellectual property protection amid challenges posed by digitisation and cybercrime. He highlighted initiatives such as the Security Interest in Movable Property Registry System (SIMPRS), which are instrumental in formalising businesses and enhancing financial inclusion.
