Govnet, UFMI, and URSB discuss royalty collection system to boost transparency and efficiency
A high-level meeting between Govnet, the Uganda Federation of Musicians and Innovators (UFMI), and the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) took place last week to deliberate on a ground-breaking agreement aimed at developing an automated system for royalty collection.
The proposed system, spearheaded by Govnet, in collaboration with UFMI, is expected to revolutionise the collection process by reducing administrative costs while enhancing transparency and accountability. Recognising the financial challenges UFMI faces, Govnet reaffirmed its capacity to implement a solution that aligns with the needs of artists and other stakeholders.
Renowned musician and advocate, Ragga Dee (Daniel Kazibwe), who is also the President of UFMI, emphasised the importance of ensuring the system is designed to serve the interests of creatives effectively. “The solution must be viable and aligned with the needs of the people,” he stated.
Discussions also touched on broader efforts to promote local content, including creating dedicated storage for creative works and a robust system for identifying and compensating content creators.
With all parties committed to fostering a fairer and more efficient royalty collection process, the meeting marked a significant step toward empowering artists and strengthening Uganda’s creative economy.
